Adapted from a short horror story by Francis Marion Crawford, The Screaming Skull marks the directorial debut of Alex Nicol. This atmospheric and eerie gothic chiller, presented by Eureka Classics, is a hidden gem from American International Pictures.

The story follows Jenni (Peggy Webber) as she moves into her new husband Eric Whitlock’s (John Hudson) secluded country mansion. Inherited after the death of his first wife, Marion, the house holds dark secrets. Jenni becomes increasingly uneasy about Marion’s fate, who supposedly drowned in the garden pond. The groundskeeper, Mickey (Alex Nicol), believes Marion’s ghost haunts the estate, and Jenni soon experiences inexplicable events, fearing she is under supernatural influence.

Influenced by gothic melodramas like Rebecca and Gaslight, and presaging haunted house classics such as House on Haunted Hill, The Screaming Skull delivers hair-raising set-pieces and earns its place in independent American horror cinema. This is the film's first presentation on Blu-ray in the UK.
