12 Years a Slave (2013) - DVD

Award-winning historical drama directed by Steve McQueen, based on the true story of Solomon Northup, a free African-American man living in New York who is kidnapped and sold into slavery. Played with profound intensity by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Solomon endures unimaginable hardship as he is stripped of his identity and forced to survive under brutal conditions on Louisiana plantations. His journey takes him from the relatively humane ownership of William Ford (Benedict Cumberbatch) to the sadistic cruelty of Edwin Epps (Michael Fassbender), where hope seems lost until a chance encounter with a compassionate laborer (Brad Pitt) opens a path to freedom.
