Styrofoam Winos - Any River [audioCD]

Styrofoam Winos present Any River, the follow-up album to their 2024 release, Real Time. Formed a decade ago by three employees of Jj’s Market and Cafe—Lou Turner, Trevor Nikrant, and Joe Kenkel—the band bonded over shared adoration for artists like Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, and Leonard Cohen, alongside dollar bin country records. Their creative process is rooted in enthusiasm, jam sessions, and erasure poetry, where new poems were generated by blacking out words in old books. The band members frequently swap instruments and share lead vocals, reflecting a playful, go-with-the-flow approach that makes the album title, Any River, particularly apt.

Key Album Background

• The band's creative direction was significantly influenced by seeing Michael Hurley perform live.
• Styrofoam Winos previously released a cassette of covers of Michael Hurley's songs, which received his blessing.
• The group learned to play the drums collectively after a friend left a drum set behind.
