Fresh from selling out London’s Royal Albert Hall, Stornoway returns with 'Beyonder' — their most ambitious album to date. This record expands the band’s sound while retaining the melodic warmth and sense of wonder that has long defined their music.
The album's genesis lies in one of the most remote corners of the UK. Frontman Brian Briggs spent weeks volunteering as a National Trust ranger on St Kilda, an island 100 kilometres west of the Outer Hebrides. Living among towering sea cliffs, seabird colonies, and abandoned settlements, the experience of standing on the edge of the Atlantic sparked the initial songs for 'Beyonder'. A photograph taken on St Kilda now serves as the album cover.
Briggs describes the experience: “Never have I been anywhere so wild and exposed, and never have I felt more alive.” The stark landscape and the island’s layered history, from centuries-old blackhouses to a modern military base, shaped a record that quietly reflects on connection, fragility, and the changing world. 'Beyonder' confronts biodiversity and climate crises, divisive politics, and their impact on our minds and communities, offering songs about journeys, discovery, and choice that cultivate a hopeful state of mind.
Musically, 'Beyonder' sees Stornoway moving beyond their early folk label with broader, expansive arrangements that still centre on distinctive harmonies and clear melodic writing. The album was mixed by multi-Grammy-winning engineer Oli Jacobs, known for his work with artists like Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, and The 1975.
This is the Amazon UK Exclusive Eco Random Colour Vinyl edition, featuring a printed inner sleeve and a signed insert.
