Opus13 - Mendelssohn/Grieg: String Quartets [CD]

Opus13 performs string quartets by Felix Mendelssohn and Edvard Grieg on this chamber music CD. The programme brings together Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in A minor, Op. 13, and Grieg’s Quartet No. 1.

Formed in 2014, the quartet takes its name from Mendelssohn’s Op. 13, the first work the members played together. With two Norwegian and two Swedish musicians, Opus13 connects the music with its Nordic roots and the Norwegian identity they hear in Grieg’s work.

The album concludes with a transcription of Grieg’s “Solveig’s Song”, from Peer Gynt. Opus13 won First Prize at the Bordeaux International and Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competitions in 2025, received the Borletti-Buitoni Prize in 2026 and was selected as a BBC New Generation Artist.
