Floating Points - Mere Mortals [2LP Vinyl]

Experience 'Mere Mortals', the groundbreaking debut ballet score from composer, producer, musician, and DJ Floating Points (Sam Shepherd). Commissioned and directed by Tamara Rojo, artistic director of the San Francisco Ballet, this 14-track album, recorded with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra for Deutsche Grammophon, is a captivating fusion of myth, music, and movement.

Choreographed by Aszure Barton with design and visuals by Hamill Industries, the ballet reimagines the story of Pandora. The score itself is a rich tapestry of sound, blending elegiac strings, apocalyptic brass, and pulsing electronics. From the delicate solo violin in 'Hope' to the intense dissonance and percussion of 'Rage of the Gods', and the ethereal harp melody of 'Her Gift' preceding the unsettling 'Opening of the Jar', the music mirrors the ballet's central exploration of the boundary between humanity and technology.
