REZN - Cycles in the Infinite Dream [CD]

Chicago quartet REZN presents Cycles in the Infinite Dream, a monumental and divine offering that masterfully harnesses oppressive weight with celestial melodies and sublime, synesthesia-inducing atmospherics. This release seamlessly blends seismic riffs with effortless beauty and grandeur, occupying a liminal space between two realities.

While REZN traffics in the unbridled realms of metal and untethered reaches of psychedelia, this album showcases a band working with discipline and intention. As the title suggests, Cycles in the Infinite Dream explores the nexus of our waking and nocturnal worlds, delving into the dream and subconscious state as a lyrical concept and melodic theme. The band describes the pseudo-waking state as a reflection of a second existence, something one can flee to or be imprisoned by.

Evoking the subconscious-guided work of David Lynch, the album creates an obscured and distorted space that is both familiar and alien. Guitarist/singer Rob McWilliams' understated vocal approach eschews guttural growls or operatic gymnastics, providing a unique texture to the band's sound.
