Recorded and mixed over three successive weekends at Stockport's Strawberry Studios in April 1979, the album was produced by Martin Hannett, who employed innovative and unconventional production techniques to shape the band's dark, atmospheric sound. The iconic cover artwork, designed by Peter Saville, features a data visualization of radio waves emitted by a pulsar, symbolizing the album's enigmatic and pioneering nature. This 180-gram vinyl pressing is an import edition and stands as the only Joy Division album released during lead singer Ian Curtis's lifetime, making it a cornerstone of alternative music history.
